Zide contains Gliclazide as an active ingredient which is one of a group of medicines called sulfonylureas that are used to lower the blood sugar level. It is used to treat maturity onset diabetes in patients that is not controlled by diet alone. It is not for use in children or in patients with diabetes requiring insulin.
Gliclazide works by stimulating release of insulin from the beta cells of the pancreas, reduces insulin uptake and glucose output by the liver and increases insulin sensitivity at peripheral target sites.
