Penisol VK Tablets contains Phenoxymethylpenicillin as the active ingredient. Phenoxymethylpenicillin is an antibiotic (antibacterial medicine) for treating infections. It belongs to a group of antibiotics called “Penicillins”.Phenoxymethylpenicillin works by killing the bacteria that can cause infections. Phenoxymethylpenicillin can also be used to prevent infections. It is a narrow spectrum antibiotic used to treat mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It is a natural penicillin antibiotic that is administered orally.
Phenoxymethylpenicillin exerts a bactericidal action against penicillin-sensitive microorganisms during the stage of active multiplication. It acts through the inhibition of biosynthesis of cell-wall mucopeptide. It is not active against the penicillinase-producing bacteria, which include many strains of staphylococci. The drug exerts high in vitro activity against staphylococci (except penicillinase-producing strains), streptococci (groups A, C, G, H, L and M), and pneumococci. Other organisms sensitive in vitro to Phenoxymethylpenicillin are Corynebacteriumdiphtheriae, Bacillus anthracis, Clostridia, Actinomycesbovis, Streptobacillusmoniliformis, Listeria monocytogenes, Leptospira, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Treponemapallidum is extremely sensitive.
By binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, Phenoxymethylpenicillin inhibits the third and last stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cell lysis is then mediated by bacterial cell wall autolytic enzymes such as autolysins; it is possible that Penicillin V interferes with an autolysin inhibitor.
Benifits:
For the treatment of mild to moderately severe infections (e.g. dental infection, infections in the heart, middle ear infections, rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, skin infections, upper and lower respiratory tract infections) due to microorganisms.
