Dothin Tablet contains Dothiepin as the active ingredient which is a Tricyclic antidepressant used to treat depression and associated symptoms like lack of interest, mood changes, and despair. It is also used to treat sleep disorders. It increases the levels of chemical messengers in the brain that help in regulating the mood and treat depression.

Dosulepin hydrochloride (also known as dothiepin) is a TCA which inhibits norepinephrine and 5-hydroxytryptamine uptake from the nerve endings, thereby increases availability at central norepinephrine synapses. It has anticholinergic, antihistamine and central sedative properties.




Dothin Tablet is used in the treatment of depression, neuropathic pain and anxiety disorder. It is used in patients intolerant of or unresponsive to alternative treatment options for depression.

Direction to Use

  • Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor.
  • Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it.
  • Dothin Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
  • The main dose should be taken at night as this drug may produce drowsiness or sleepiness. It can take 4 to 6 weeks for Dothin Tablet to start working.
  • If your doctor asks you to stop Dothin Tablet, you should reduce the dose slowly over 4 weeks. You should not discontinue it abruptly.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol when taking the Dothin Tablet, as it may cause excessive drowsiness and calmness.

Side Effects

Common Side Effects of Dothin are Dryness in mouth, Blurred vision, Sleepiness, Increased heart rate, Orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure on standing), Weight gain, Difficulty in urination, Constipation.

It may be extremely dangerous in overdose.
