Information about Inj. Levemir Flexpen

Levemir Flexpen contains Insulin detemir which is a long-acting insulin that provides consistent, all-day sugar control. It works like your body's natural insulin. Insulin facilitates reuptake of sugar in muscle and fat cells and also suppresses the production of sugar in the liver.

Insulin detemir is a long-acting preparation. Insulin detemir primarily works on the regulation of glucose metabolism. Insulins detemir binds to insulin receptors. Receptor-bound insulin lowers blood glucose by facilitating cellular uptake of glucose into skeletal muscle and adipose tissue and by inhibiting the output of glucose from the liver. Insulin inhibits lipolysis in the adipocyte, inhibits proteolysis and enhances protein synthesis.

Benifits:

Insulin detemir is used in the treatment of diabetes.

Direction to Use

Always use your insulin and adjust your dose exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor, nurse or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Levemir is for injection under the skin (subcutaneously). You must never inject Levemir directly into a vein (intravenously) or muscle (intramuscularly).

Levemir FlexPen is only suitable for injecting under the skin. Speak to your doctor if you need to inject your insulin by another method. With each injection, change the injection site within the particular area of skin that you use. This may reduce the risk of developing lumps or skin pitting. The best places to give yourself an injection are: the front of your thighs, the front of your waist (abdomen), or the upper arm. You should always measure your blood sugar regularly.

Do not change your insulin unless your doctor tells you to.

Side Effects

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level), Injection site allergic reaction
