Umepenta contains Pantoprazole as the active ingredient which is a proton-pump inhibitor that works by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach and is used in peptic ulcer disorders.
Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. The PPI binds irreversibly to a hydrogen/potassium ATPaseenzyme (proton pump) on gastric parietal cells and blocks the secretion of hydrogen ions, which combine with chloride ions in the stomach lumen to form gastric acid. PPIs block secretion of hydrogen ions into the stomach.
