Benzosed contains Midazolam as the active ingredient which is a benzodiazepine. It works by increasing the action of GABA, a chemical messenger which suppresses the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain.
Midazolam works by binding to stereospecific benzodiazepine receptors on the postsynaptic GABA neuron at several sites within the CNS, including the limbic system, reticular formation. Enhancement of the inhibitory effect of GABA on neuronal excitability results by increased neuronal membrane permeability to Cl- ions, which results in hyperpolarisation and stabilisation.
Benzosed is used for anesthesia, sedation in intensive care unit (ICU) and conscious sedation during diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
