Lantus contains Insulin Glargine which is a long-acting insulin that provides consistent, all-day sugar control. It works like your body's natural insulin. Insulin glargine is a long acting preparation. It regulates carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism by inhibiting hepatic glucose production and lipolysis and enhancing peripheral glucose disposal. Insulin binds to the receptor. Receptor-bound insulin lowers blood glucose by facilitating cellular uptake of glucose into skeletal muscle and adipose tissue and by inhibiting the output of glucose from the liver.
